What the Team Captain Feature Does:
- Denotes the selected team captain within each team with a blue ‘C’ next to their name on the leaderboard
- Optional: Allows team captains to form their own teams with a unique link
Before being able to assign team captains, you need to set up a challenge with teams. Learn how to do this here. Team Captains can be assigned in step and break-based challenges.
How to Assign Team Captains
Step 1: Set up the challenge to be a team challenge to allow you to build teams and click “Manage Teams”
Step 2: Select ‘Yes’ to Use Team Captains – this will result in a ‘C’ being next to their name on the leaderboard during the challenge
Step 3: If you would like the Team Captains to be able to create their own teams, select Yes for this option or leave as no if you would like to build the teams.
Step 4: After creating your teams, assign a Team Captain on each team by clicking ‘Make Captain’. If you would like the captains to form their own teams, there’s not need to add others to the teams. If you are building the teams yourself, you can continue to do so and follow the rest of the challenge creation process as described here.
Step 5: After your teams are created, Click ‘Finished Managing Teams’ at the bottom of the page and Publish your challenge. If your team captains are making their own teams, they will receive an email once the challenge is published:
Note: No email will be sent to Team Captains if they are not given the ability to create their own teams.
Step 6: Team Captains can share the link in the email with those they would like to invite to their team and check the progress of the team formation by clicking ‘view my team’.
Champions and Advocates (where applicable) are able to manage team members at any point by clicking “Manage Teams’ on the challenge in the champion portal. This function may come in handy if you would like teams to have equal or balanced number team members. If the teams will vary in size, you may want to consider the ‘Average per Teammate’ option for tracking points/steps while creating the challenge which can be found above the Team options in the template.
